On January 29th, 2025, the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA) took a  step in helping its members embrace the digital era with a training session focused on utilizing TikTok for business growth. Recognizing the growing importance of social media in marketing, USSIA organized this session to support members in enhancing their digital presence and reaching new audiences through one of the most popular platforms available today—TikTok.

The primary goal of the session was to equip USSIA members with the knowledge and tools to digitalize their marketing efforts, specifically through TikTok, a platform that has revolutionized the way businesses engage with customers. The session covered best practices for profile optimization, including selecting the right username, profile picture, and writing an engaging bio that captures a brand’s essence. For many members who were new to the platform, this was the foundation of creating a digital identity that resonates with their target audience.
  2. Understanding Your Audience and Creating Relevant Content
    A major part of digital marketing is creating content that speaks directly to your audience. During the session, USSIA members learned how to identify their target audience on TikTok and craft content that would capture their attention. The use of hashtags, trends, and challenges to increase the visibility of their posts was also discussed, helping members understand how to gain traction in the vast TikTok community.

The training was particularly beneficial for those members who were unfamiliar with TikTok, with 39% of attendees receiving direct assistance in setting up their accounts.

When asked to rate the quality of the training, 62% of participants rated it as “excellent,” and 38% rated it as “good,” reflecting the session’s effectiveness in delivering valuable, actionable insights. Moreover, 20 participants rated the training as “very relevant” to their businesses, while 67% of the group felt confident that they could apply the knowledge gained to improve their digital marketing strategies.

As businesses move towards digital solutions, many small-scale entrepreneurs face challenges in navigating new platforms. However, USSIA’s hands-on support and training sessions like this one are helping members bridge the gap.
